"Well, how did I get here? Onto your computer screen at home...?"

Before I started my studies in 2002 I had little ideas about computer. They were some kind of mistery, just being used for typing and playing games. Since then much has changed, as you can see. I never thought that I would spent so much time in front of a screen.

As I said I started my stduies in 2002, after finishing my last year of highschool (in Germany you have to complete thirteen years of school before you go to university). After searching for the right course I have decided to give Media System Design a go. Media System Design, the course name makes you curious and sounds like something big and adventurous. It doesn't really explain what we are talking about, but it is still nice and shiny. Just imagine the words Media System Designer on your business card.

"Well Media System Design is a mixure of economics, computer studies and design." The most quoted sentence from any student in my semester. It is the easiest way to describe what we are actually doing and learning while at university. The course is about:

- Html, CSS, Java Script, Java, PHP and MySQL from the computer science point of view
- Offer and demand, marketing strategies and project management as part of economics and
- Color and shapes, grids, fonts, laws of attention and usability as only a few demands on the interface
  design

Overall this mixure out of the three different subjects brings fun, excitment and a lot of stress as well (but this kind of stress is positive in any way as soon as it is over ;-)).

These whole description sounds really theorethically but my course is totally different. Practical work is the most important part of my studies. Working in different project groups, designing an interface or documenting the improvement within a project is just a part of all our time spend at university. As every student in any country we party hard and long after finishing a semester and giving our last presentation.

Since December 2006 I am actually done with my studies. I wrote my diploma thesis on how communication and data transfer for backpackers can be improved in the future. Right now I am still at university doing my master in economics to work in the area of New Media Marketing. Exciting new things to find out in the future.
